Of the 33 households in the neighborhood about 8 people showed up. Prevailing attitudes of non-participants were “there has never been a fire here before,” and “it’s my neighbor’s problem not mine.”
The Chelan County Fire District 1 “Westridge Training Fire” served as the catalyst to empower one neighborhood to reduce their risk to wildfire and progress toward becoming more fire adapted by using fire in the wildland urban interface and demonstrating shared responsibility.
