A Chief from a neighboring fire district told me that the next 'big fire' in Spokane County would be in Spokane County Fire District 5's service area. I asked, "Why?" His response: mixed terrain and an in all volunteer district "it takes volunteers longer to get to a scene". When I returned to my home District, I shared what I had learned and said "we have to do something!"
